Child and Family Specialist

Jefferson Center for Mental Health

This is a Contract position in Wheat Ridge, CO posted July 1, 2020.

Overview Provides outreach and supportive services to children and families directly or indirectly impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

This includes outreach to children and adolescents, parents, day-care, schools and faith-based groups.

Provides training and education about the impact of COVID-19, reactions to disasters, and healthy responses to life-changing events.

This is a temporary position, 9 to 11 months Responsibilities Essential Duties: Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with representatives of local community, daycare, faith-based and school groups.

Provides developmentally appropriate crisis counseling services for children and parents.

Provides parent education and supportive family services focused on grief and loss.

Promotes resilience and adaptive coping techniques using individual, group and family evidence-based strategies.

Provides culturally sensitive education and training about the effects of trauma on children, adolescents, and their families.

Delivers training on relevant topics, including reactions to disasters, creating safe environments, creating classroom communities, and healthy responses to life-changing events.

Develops and maintains relationships with Jefferson Center Child and Family and School-Based Services programs, to facilitate referral of children and families in need of ongoing therapy services.

Meets for supervision on a regular basis with the team leader.

Represents the program in the community, and networks with other agencies and partners to ensure that the needs of the seniors and families of seniors are met.

Reports successes, challenges, and barriers to team leader.

Collaborates with other members of the CCP team.

Engages in team work and joint problem-solving.

Completes required CCP documentation within required time frames.

Demonstrates initiative and creativity in developing ways to offer support to those affected by COVID-19.

Has knowledge of referral sources, and makes referrals on an as-needed basis Other Duties: Maintains an acceptable attendance record.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment Ability to operate a personal computer.

Ability to attend meetings at a variety of locations.

Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required: Master’s degree in psychology, social work or related field, with 2 or more years’ experience in providing counseling or other supportive outreach.

Previous experience working with youth and their families is preferred.

After hire, must complete FEMA required training.

Must have valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record while employed at Jefferson Center.

Meets the requirements of applicable federal, state and organizational background checks.

Understands general parameters regarding when parental consent is necessary in any direct engagement with children.
