Now Hiring: Mechanic IIThe Job:The Streets Mechanic IIPerforms various administrative, technical, and mechanical duties at the journeyman mechanic level for the Streets Department Fleet Maintenance shop.
This position acts as a mechanic for all types of vehicles, including heavy to small equipment problems, repairing, rebuilding and part replacement and performs welding and fabricating as needed on gasoline and diesel powered equipment.
This role also monitors and tracks inventory, orders and purchases supplies to maintain adequate shop inventory and trains workforce as necessary on equipment operation, maintenance and safety.
Also includes in areas of responsibility are maintenance of the shop including painting, cleaning and maintenance of shop equipment.Minimum Requirements:Education: High School Diploma or GED EquivalentExperience:Five (5) years of vehicle/equipment mechanic experience on all types of gasoline and diesel powered equipment; or equivalent training.Licenses & Certifications:Valid Colorado CDL driver’s license class B with tanker endorsement.
Air Brake inspector certification or ability to achieve one within 6 months of hire.Anycombination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.Physical Requirements:Physical:Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.Three-dimensional vision and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
Heavy work includes exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Position may require removal of snow and ice from walkways, parking lots, roofs and vehicles, including general safety inspection of snow prone areas.Hazardous Materials & Conditions: Proximity to moving mechanical parts, vehicular traffic, electrical current, exposure to high heat, or exposure to chemicals and adverse weather conditions and the presence of vehicular traffic and pedestrian flowOperating Heavy Equipment:Bobcat, Forklifts,Snowplow, Backhoe, Street Sweeper, Loaders, Motor graders, Flush truck, Dump trucks, Snowcat, Dozer.Work Environment:Indoors:Work is performed in a well-lit, heated, and vented shop.
