Mission Systems Power IPT Lead

Sierra Nevada Corporation

This is a Full-time position in Centennial, CO posted June 22, 2020.

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or a related engineering field and at least 10 years of relevant experience. As the Mission Systems Power Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Developing all aspects of supplemental electrical power sources and the required modifications to the air vehicle, including modification to existing power supply to increase the available electrical power and/or installing new power sources to supplement the existing supply. This includes all structural, electrical, and power system modifications, indication and control required to accommodate these changes.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with other groups to gather all inputs to define interfaces and ensure operability with the other mission systems and to ensure operability of the interior with the other mission systems and IPTs. 
  • Planning and execution of all aircraft ground and flight test to demonstrate functionality. 
  • Working with your team to divide the workshare between internal and external capability and generate Statements of Work (SOWs) to flow to potential sub-contractors. Once on contract, the lead shall ensure the sub-contractor has the information and communications necessary to complete their task in scope and on time. In addition, the IPT lead will monitor subcontractor progress to ensure program success.

  • Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering or related Engineering discipline and at least 10 or more years of relevant experience
  • An active Secret U.S. Security Clearance


  • Knowledge of:
    • APUs (Auxiliary Power Units) function and design considerations necessary to select and design installations compliant with TSO-C77B
    • Aircraft Power generation, conversion, and distribution systems, and necessary considerations in order to modify and certify within FAA and military regulations.
    • Aircraft structures
    • Aircraft fire suppression systems
    • Interior and/or cargo compliance
    • Requirement comprehension and derived requirement development for electrical power generations
    • DO-160/MIL-STD-810 Qualification testing procedures for equipment qualification
    • FAA and/or military certification regulations for part 23/25 for fixed wing and/or part 27/29 for rotorcraft and MIL-HDBK-516C
  • Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, such as DOORS, Rhapsody, NoMagic, MATLAB
  • Knowledgeable of industry standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE), verification and validation (V&V)
  • Experienced or certified in INCOSE standards
  • Prior experience in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
  • Previous experience leading baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of high impact trade studies and other measures
  • Previous experience establishing and tracking key Technical Performance Measurements (TPM)
